PSUK CRICKET APPEAL TO FEMALE STAFF
Police Sport UK Cricket currently incorporates the National side British Police Cricket Club and the National Knockout Annual Championship.
BPCC was founded in 1973 and continues today in the format of an Annual Tour where 50 over fixtures are played against the Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, Club Cricket Conference and a 1st Class County 2nd / Academy XI.
The Team has also played T20 fixtures against the Services.
In 1975 the Knockout Championships were introduced.
The Competition is open to ALL Forces in the UK whether single, joint or “Regional” teams.
2018 saw 20 teams entered with 25 forces being represented.
2019 will see an actual reduction in entries to 17 but an increase in Forces represented increased to 29.
There will also be a new format with 4 leagues of 4 - 5 teams in each. The group winners will proceed to the semi finals with the winners progressing to play for the Cup and the losers to contest the Giffard Plate
AIMS OF POLICE SPORT UK CRICKET
To encourage Police Officers and Support Workers to participate in playing, officiating and supporting Police cricket and to benefit from the resulting social interaction.
APPEAL
With an increase in female staff and and in senior ranks the Section would like to form a Ladies Team to compete as a National side (BPCC) initially and if there is enough support, to form a National Inter Force Competition at a later stage
I am therefore appealing to all female cricketers, whether a beginner or regular player, who would be interested in becoming involved in this new venture to contact me at:-
Beefy100@sky.com or my mobile 07721 954849
To save me having to give the same reply to interested parties questions about what’s going to happen ......
Initially I’m trying to establish if we’ll have enough players to proceed. I’m hoping by around Christmas the article should have been seen by all Forces - it’s clearly out there and ladies are replying to it. Assuming there are what I consider enough players then I can look at a possible get together somewhere in the Midlands as centrally located for some nets / practice day?
Moving forwards I’m looking at a T20 fixture or even a T20 Tri series day.
Just to reiterate - we are looking for anyone who is interested whether a beginner, returning to the game after an absence, occasional player, regular player and national representatives.
We are also seeking anyone interested in coaching / scoring / umpiring and management of the team
You can find out more about the Section on the dedicated Police Section under News at Cricketworld, social media - BPCC (Facebook) and @britishpolicecc (Twitter)
