2nd Round Result

D+C Police took on Northants police in the second round of the PSUK National cup on the 7th of June at Braunton on a warm sunny day with a slight breeze from the Atlantic.

D+C captain Scott Barrott won the toss and put Northants in to bat. They made a slow start against excellent bowling by Barrott (9-4-19-1) and Will Heather (8.4-4-18-1) only reaching 38-4 after 15 overs. They rallied slightly in the middle order and by 30 overs had reached 110 for 5 with a steady innings of 44 by Street helped by 44 from Baker both falling to Chris Challoner (5-18-3), the first Bowled the second C+B.. Chris Challoner and Mike Brown (9-28-1) then bowling pegged them back again reducing the total to 156 all out off 43.4 overs.

In reply D+C made a steady start with Luke Temple Smith and Chris Challoner the openers resisting the natural urge to hit out taking the team to 90 -0 after 16. Luke was caught on 50 off the tempting spin of Weston (9-3-35-1) bringing in Barrott who made 11 before being caught off Nealon (4-30-1), with Steve Harding (22n.o.) and Challoner (53n.o.) sealing the victory by 8 wickets in 29 of the 45 allotted overs. A great game played in good spirit, the only negative being we had to umpire ourselves! That issue has now been resolved.

This now sees D+C in the quarter final on the 1th of July at Braunton cricket club against Northumbria / Durham combined team.
