The Met chose to bat first.
Inroads were made with Berriman and Day for Northants reducing the Met to 36-2.
However Gray coming in at 3 was the difference between the 2 teams. His 106 off 98 balls was a superb example of batting full of class strokes.
The 3rd wicket partnership of 94 with Bryan in 17 overs threatened to take the game away. The introduction of Dave Weston slowed things down and his 4-27 helped by 3 stumpings from Colin Lee kept the total within reach despite some late hitting by Breeze scoring 56 in 36 balls leaving the Met to finish on 273-8.
Northants started well, Gary Fowler and Dean Adam adding 73 in 15 overs. At drinks on 23 overs Northants were well placed on 112-1. Skipper Sam Street added 39 before he fell on 133-2. Adam reached his 50 and was immediately out caught behind off Bryan. This left 124 needed off the last 13 overs. Sadly Northants weren’t able to push on from here as Taylor and Bryan applied the pressure to slow the runs and take regular wickets. Some late order blows from Will Haines 41 not out weren’t enough and Northants fell short handing the Met a victory by 38 runs. Some sympathy for Taylor who saw a dolly of a catch dropped off the last ball of the game that would have given him a five for!!
