It is with great sadness I have to report the loss of Graham Johnson, a truly charismatic and hugely competitive figure of BPCC during a 5 year spell with British Police CC.
Better known as "Jonty" he made his debut in 1987 under the captaincy of Alan Hampshire becoming the 57th player to represent the Club since 1973.
He made 13 appearances despite missing the 89 Tour.
Known for his miserly right arm medium pace bowling he finished with figures of
125.1 - 26 - 376 - 19 at an average of 19.78 with a strike rate of 39.52 and economy rate of just 3 runs per over
His best figures were actually in his last game in 1991 v Army at Imber Court where he returned a spell of 9.5 - 2 - 28 - 4 as BP defended a target of just 215 bowling Army out for 218.
He is also fondly remembered for his bowling spell v Royal Navy at Portsmouth in 1990. BP batted first making 318 -3 (55 overs).
Jonty then opened the bowling returning figures of 11 - 6 - 13 - 1 in the one spell before waving on 12th man Andy Platts (Notts) to replace him whilst he went for a leisurely "soak" in the bath for the remainder of the match !!
RIP JONTY - from everyone associated with British Police Cricket Club
