The last day was dull and cloudy with heavy rain forecast. Thanks to Ockbrook & Brrowash CC who agreed to host the fixture at late notice .
Mick Martin made it 3-2 with the toss & inserted the RAF.
He was intent on a bowl out and run chase for the coveted 5 wins in a week with the game immediately reduced to 40 overs due to the forecast
Unfortunately for the police it was not to be as the opposition reached 144-3 on a weather effected on off day.
The highlight was the two wickets taken by Mike Harling giving him 10 wickets in the week, joining an illustrious group and led only by Tony Smith, Gareth Morris, Peter Davey & Mark Davies.
A final delay due to heavy rain led to handshakes and the abandonment of the last match
SUMMARY
This was perhaps the best all round weekly performance by a BP squad for many years. The inclusion of 10 new players added an all-round fresh commitment and dedication to the mix. The group were strong and balanced in every department.
Captain Mick Martin (Gwent) 166 led from the front but we shouldn’t forget his on the field contribution. After 2021 he moved above Roger Cruttenden in the list of total run scorers with 717. He has also passed Mark Davies in the batting averages with 35.85
Notes:-
The secretary was unable to share the full week as he was supporting his wife Angie who was taken seriously ill & admitted to Hospital. The best wishes of all connected with BP go to Angie for a full and speedy recovery.
MMGOM (Mitch Must Get Out More!)
On a personal note, I decided to retire from the BPCC committee and my post as Official Scorer & Stato!
The time is right for someone to replace my pencils with computer programmes! Though the book should always come first – it doesn’t crash or lose power.
My first connection with the section was in 1989 as umpire and I have proudly ‘stood’ in 44 BP matches, the current appearance record. I continued my association to date with a place on the committee and with 49 matches in the scorebox.
I have enjoyed my association with the section and will still visit for a days cricket when I can.
All the very best to everyone in the BP cricket section.
Peter Mitchell
