The BP squad found the only traffic jam on route was the queue at the Vine Lane gates at 0930 as entry was precluded by a padlock and chain! The groundsman arrived at the scene and revealed the RAF had called the fixture off the previous evening as it had been “tweeting” with rain and the RAF felt a postponement would prevent further twittering!
All the RAF players and officials and caterers had all been made aware but no call had been made directly to the BP opposition!
It was 1975 when BP first played at Vine Lane – it would be dreadfully sad if 42 years of cricket were spoilt by a failure to communicate in a proper, direct and personal manner – hopefully this oversight will be rectified.
By the way the pitch and outfield were fully recovered and play would have been possible within a couple of hours
