There was a determined mood in the BP camp of finishing on a high before departures to the four corner of the British Isles.
The Royal Navy won the toss and elected to bat, putting on 36 before Andy Sidgreaves got down to hold a caught and bowled bringing in Turnbull. He proceeded to make one of the great BP cricket week innings, scoring 142 (145 minutes, 127 balls, 11x4’s & 1x6) before he was caught by Callum Rodger off Alan Davidson, an amazing 58% contribution to 243 all out. Once again BP failed to close the game from 188 for 8 thanks to a 9th wicket stand of 55. Andy Sidgreaves opened the attack taking 2-29 from his 10 overs. Dave Morrell taking 3-43 with the Scots Callum Rodger and Alan Rodgers taking 2 wickets apiece.
In reply BP slumped to 59-3 before Alan Davidson and Richard Wharton (19) put on 54 valuable runs (113-4). That soon became 114-5 and the winning line well in the distance. Alan Davidson was then partnered by James Adkins and there followed a stand of 105 in 16 overs. James Adkins was out for 58 (61 minutes, 42 balls, 7x4’s, 1x6, 1x5) the total 219-6. Would BP blow it from this position? At 219-7 it looked a possibility! Callum Rodger (9) helped move the total to 229-8. Thankfully George Crossley saw it through in the 49th over with two welcome boundaries. At the other end Alan Davidson was unbeaten with an impressive 79, having taken 154 minutes and 99 balls, with 8x4’s. A real show of determination and commitment. By the way that man Turnbull took 4-50 and still ended on the losing side!
Thankfully there was a deserved BP victory to end the week.
