Day 1 Lincolnshire CCC Development XI at Woodhall Spa CC.
A cloudy sort of sultry atmosphere greeted BP on arrival at WSCC.
7 New Caps were awarded
Shaun Smith (Northumbria)
Sean Tindale (Durham)
Scott Campbell (PSNI)
Simon Olphert (PSNI)
Craig Grimley (Notts)
Stuart Drakeley (Kent)
Niall Burke (Met)
Lincs won the toss and had no hesitation in asking BP to bat first.
This initially proved to have been good call with Smith (1) and Davidson (3) back in the hutch inside 6 overs with the score on 28.
The captain joined Campbell as the pair gradually rebuilt the innings growing in confidence as the overs went by. Campbell brought up his maiden 50 with 2 x 6 over midwicket and square leg but as the drinks break loomed (25th over) he somehow drove uppishly and was caught in the covers for a well crated 61 off 75 balls (6x4,2x6) leaving BP on 99-3. The next 4 wickets added 73 (Tindale 17, Roe 1, Olphert 18 and Drakeley 0). The dismissal of Drakeley had Pete "Stato" Mitchell drooling as he created a new record which will never be broken by being run out for 0 without facing a ball!!
Meanwhile the captain having just reached his 50 (108 balls) was bowled just before an enforced rain break. early tea was taken during which the match was reduced to 45 overs meaning Bp were left with just 3 overs to face. The tail managed to get the total up to 203.
The total was soon out of reach as Lincs collapsed to 39-6 against a hostile opening spell from Tindale (6-2-13-3) and a probing length from Burke (6-2-21-2) with support from Grimley (5-0-27-0). Only resistance came fro the Lincs captain John Nyumbu (37) but once he departed the tail was mopped up by Harris and Roe with a wicket apiece.
Campbell was voted Arc Legal Man of the Match which was presented by Lincs CC Bill Skelly.
So a winning start for BP last seen in 2014 against Midlands Cricket Conference.
Many thanks to all at Woodhall Spa especially the tea ladies who laid on a fabulous spread.
Finally thanks to Mark Fell (Lincs CCC Director of Cricket) who has confirmed he would like to see this become a regular fixture in future years.
