It was great to see three former BP players at the ground - our old friend and BP stalwart on and off the field, Peter Allen, together with Mark Stear and Darryl Carter, both now officials with the CCC.
The Conference won the toss and came out to bat and set off at a break neck pace with 32 off the first three overs, before the 1st wicket. Andy Sidgreaves got one to pop forcing a leading edge from Chris Jones that Andy Lynch grabbed overhead. Ryan Watkins entered the attack and pegged the Conference back with a quality spell, taking the next two wickets LBW with the score in the 50’s. When Andy Sidgreaves also trapped Alex Browne, 75 for 4 from 14 overs signalled a decent fight back. The captain Dan Yarnley joined Angelo Perera and together they put on 58 (133-5) before Yarnley (21) was caught by James Adkins diving to his left from the bowling of Baig. There were other double wicket stands including an unbroken 36 for the last wicket before time was called on 250 for 9 wickets. BP a little disappointed that they couldn’t finish the innings from 214-9. That wicket was Angelo Perera who departed at the end of a delightful innings of 115 (131 minutes, 108 balls with 12x4’s & 2x6’s) bowled by Watkins trying to improvise a boundary. Ryan Watkins was the pic of the attack with a spell of 3-29 from his 10 overs. There were 18 wides which tells its own tale.
In reply BP lost Davidson caught at 1st slip the score 19. Adam Phillips was joined by Ryan Watkins and together they put on 86 before Watkins (27) skied a catch from a top edge. Phillips was in good form reaching his 50 (51 balls, 64 minutes) he was bowled on 122-3, having notched 72 runs (82 balls, 101 minutes including 14x4’s. Once again a BP collapse saw wickets fall at minimum cost, this time 7 for 76 runs, leaving them well beaten on 198 all out, a deficit of 52 runs.
