The final day of the 2023 tour presented BPCC with another stern test in the Derbyshire and Cheshire League Select XI. Winning the toss and electing to bat, Dominic Manthorpe launched the very first ball he faced for 6, showing a level of intent, however Stuart Drakeley was caught at slip off the bowling of Tauseef Kataria in the 3rd over for a duck. Will Evans carried on the attacking intent, scoring quickly and putting on a partnership of 86 before Manthorpe was caught behind off the bowling of Abid Zadran for 17, shortly followed by Evans, caught behind off Jimmy Lawton for 69. Lawton also had Tom Knight caught by Abid Zadran for 17 and Micky Martin caught by Ben Hutchinson for 1 in the 23rd over. Joe Flatt was next to go in the 25th over, caught for 8 by Andre Bradford, again off the bowling of Lawton. Skipper Ben Hutchinson brought himself back on to clean bowl Lewis Staniforth for a duck in the 27th over. Craig Grimley and Josh Johnson showed some intent and put on 25 before Grimley was caught by Kataria off the bowling of Callum Broderick for 17 in the 33rd over. Johnson and Hayden Tice were both dismissed LBW in successive deliveries from player-coach Daryl Smit in the 36th over for 11 and 0 respectively, ending BPCCs innings at 176 all out.
In reply, it was clear that the week had taken its toll on the bowlers as none of them looked like they were going to take a wicket with openers Andre Bradford and Callum Broderick putting on 132 before drinks before both retiring, Bradford with 66 and Broderick with 54. Callum Hawkins didn’t trouble the scorebook by chipping a Stuart Drakeley delivery to Micky Martin for 0. Sebastian Scott followed 4 overs later when he hit one in the air to Will Evans, again bowled by Drakeley, for 13. Joe Flatt had Joe Smith caught behind in the 27th for 1 before Nafis Shaikh (7 not out) and Daryl Smit (11 not out) reached the total in the 28th over. Derbyshire and Cheshire Select XI win by 7 wickets.
