Day 2 saw BPCC try and bounce back against the RAF on a slightly cloudy day at Denby CC. Losing the toss, BPCC were asked to bowl first, which proved to be a good toss to lose.
The opening bowling pair of Lewis Jones and debutant Josh Johnson wasted no time in ripping through the order with Jones having opener Adam Sutcliffe caught by Dominic Manthorpe for 4 in the 5th over with Johnson bowling other opener Elis Richards for 2 in the next over. Johnson struck again 2 overs later, When Jack Harrison feathered one to keeper Gary Knight. Not to be outdone, Jones bowled Touseef Ahmad in the 9th over for 7 and pinned Andy McGeorge in front 2 overs later for a duck. In the 14th over, Johnson struck twice in two balls to get out captain Ashley Watson and Sean McCabe, caught by Micky Martin and Dominic Manthorpe respectively. Jones levelled the wickets in the 19th over when he trapped Thomas Stephan in front for 10. Jones finished his overs with figures of 10 overs, 2 maidens, 4 for 35 and Johnson ended with 10 overs, 2 maidens 4 for 25.
At this stage of the game, after 20 overs, RAF were 48 for 8 and in danger of capitulating for less than 60. However, the tail had some spirit and number 7 Jack Fuller held up an end whilst number 10 Harry Hollingsworth struck out, building a 55 run partnership for the 9th wicket before Mitch Harris got Jack Fuller to guide one to the waiting Tom Knight at slip. Number 11 Dan Davison tried to escort Hollingsworth to his 50 but was bowled by Sam Baugh for 0 leaving Hollingsworth stranded on 49. RAF ended their innings on 110 all out.
The second innings didn’t start as planned again when Dave Roffey was skittled by RAF paceman McCabe for 1 in the 5th over. Matt Sisson and Gary Knight steadied the ship for a while, putting together a 34 run partnership before Sisson was caught by Davison off the bowling of Ahmad for 24. Tom Knight kept the board ticking over until he too was caught, this time by Aidan Sutcliffe off the bowling of Ashley Watson for 14. Next man in, Manthorpe, and G. Knight were going nicely when Knight miscued one to Jack Harrison, also off the bowling of Watson. Skipper Micky Martin was immediately out for a first baller when he was bowled by Watson’s quicker one. Craig Grimley kept his end tied up whilst Manthorpe scored the bulk of the runs, leading to BPCC winning the game by 5 wickets – Manthorpe ending 35 not out and Grimley 4 not out.
